Works great, doesn’t need permanent mounting
I have 4 kids so I’m not a noob to baby gates. That said, we do have a dog that we like to keep out of certain areas of the house, especially when guests are staying over as he has a tendency to “mark his territory” but only when people are staying with us. He isn’t a pushy dog, meaning he’s not going to challenge a gate or jump over it.I got this gate specifically for a few reasons:- wide opening – the opening in question is 46″ and not many walkthrough gates can expand that far- it doesn’t require hardmounting, meaning noting screws into the wall/walkway unless you want to (even the included doublestick pads aren’t necessary)- the walkthrough feature works either way- tensioning/adjustment seems easyInstallation was a breeze; there are 2 side extensions in the box, just choose your width and select the number of extensions you need (consult easy chart/assembly instructions provided), move around some of the included inserts, put in the tensioning assemblies (bolts with rubber pads on the end), put in the opening, and tension away. The trickiest part is getting the tension right on both sides of the gate such that it doesn’t bow or otherwise throw the entire thing out of alignment or the latch mechanism won’t line up. As I mentioned, you don’t have to use the included “cups” that adhere (or screw) to the wall/jamb – the adjustment tensioning pads are rubber so they grip the wall fairly well anyway.What might be an issue for some is that the latch is a compound one and does not autolock simply by shutting the gate – it requires you to manually latch/lock it every time. So, I’m not sure I’d use this where you need an easy walktrough and relock. At the top/bottom of stairs it might be tricky as well (e.g. if you’re carrying something).All in all a good gate that looks nice, was easy to install and didn’t break the bank.

No screws, holes, or tools required
We have three kids aged 3, 2, and 1 in a 1-bedroom apartment. This gate gives us the added security and privacy we need.Please note: the instructions DO say to mount using wall cups. What they don’t say is that wall cups (and screws and holes in the wall) are entirely optional. They’re highly recommended for added stability, especially if using at the top of stairs. I did not need or use any screws or tools to get a very sturdy and secure fit.I mounted this in less than 5 minutes in a 30″ wide doorway. It’s very simple and easy: insert “pressure bolts” into the four corners of the gate and tighten each one equally until the little green part slides all the way on the top of the gate. (That’s the pressure indicator.) One side of my gate was even missing the correct holding plate on one corner, but I just stuck the bolt in there anyway and we have had zero issues. I didn’t even need the extra washers or extenders, but it’s nice to have the option if we move the gate elsewhere.The gate swings both ways with an option to lower a swing stop on the bottom of one side so it only swings one way. The 2-part latch IS a bit stiff at first, but it gets much easier with each open/close of the gate. My kids and I were so pleased with the gate that we played “Little Bear” coming-and-going, and the latch was working smoothly in mere minutes, haha. They’re very excited to have their own gate, but they tried and failed to unlatch, so it is child-proof. My 2 y.o. daughter WAS able to latch it closed by shoving with all her bodyweight, but they don’t have the hand-span or finger strength to undo the lock.All in all, we are quite happy. It looks cute, it keeps them on their room at night, but we can still leave the door open to hear and see them. Very renter friendly. 10/10.

UPDATE, 3/09/17:I have now had and used this product long enough to update my prior review and I want to do so even though my prior review was “excellent.” First, I confirm that the product is, indeed “excellent.” Next I note that some features which I either had not thought were included, or which I thought I’d have to become accustomed to using, either are actually there or took a very minimal time to get used to. The gate works smoothly and can be shut without effort. We use it numerous times a day and it has not even needed to be adjusted, even though we let it kind of slam shut.We will be moving shortly and it is likely that we will need one or more additional gates. I will absolutely purchase the same one(s)! In fact, if were sure as to what I’ll need, especially the sizes, I’d make the purchase now just in case they become unavailable for whatever reason. The following remarks are what I wrote when I published my review the first time: Over the almost 50 years of married life, I feel as if I’ve purchased every type and make of gates, to use for children, grandchildren and pets. None of them have proven practical and useful and/or have held up for what I consider a reasonable length of time, and many were far more costly Most of them had “weak”spots which broke. I installed this one 4 days ago. It seems quite durable. At least I don’t see any potential “weak” spots. For me, the only downside is the latch operation. It appears to close tightly, which, of course, is a very positive feature. I like the options offered. You can set it up to swing open either or both ways, and there’s a latch at the bottom that controls your opening and latching options, and serves as an additional locking feature. However I find it very difficult to unlock/open one handed as two things have to be pressed simultaneously. This is especially problematic if you are carrying anything, which we virtually always are, as only one hand is free. I am practicing using one hand and, hopefully, will later be able to do so more easily. I have another gate which only has one latch to press and the gate swings closed. However that has its pros and cons: easier to open and lock but the lock is not as secure and, if I am carrying something, I have to rush to get through before it swings closed. The double latching requirements make this one much harder for little ones to operate, but for now also harder for me. I’m not concerned about our little Yorkie, smart as she is, learning how to unlock it! So I highly recommend it if little ones are around and l suspect I will do the same, with more practice, if purchased just for pets. I don’t know how well it would withstand a big Lab, etc., but I suspect it would, and only time and use will tell for sure if its durability surpasses my experiences with other gates.

We bought this gate for our grandson, and it does exactly what its advertised to do. It is sturdy, secure and easy to lock and unlock. This model is much less expensive than others, yet it does the job adequately. We’re very happy with this purchase.

Me gustó que no daña las paredes o donde se instala y es muy fácil de instalar siguiendo las instrucciones.Flexibilidad para ajustarlos a diferentes tamaños según las necesidades, y bastante resistente.Yo lo compré para mi perro (un Border Collie cachorro), y me ha funcionado perfectamemte.Sólo hay que acostumbrarse a cómo abrir la puerta (que está sobre todo diseñada para que niños pequeños no la abran).

The product is described as extra tall and extra wide. Whilst it is tall, it isn’t actually extra wide. It comes in four pieces, which is deceitful as I would have bought a different product had I known it wasn’t all one “extra wide piece”. We needed one that was one solid piece so it wouldn’t be wobbly. We already had a gate that wasn’t stable and that’s why we wanted an extra wide gate that was one piece. Other than that, the gate itself seems like good quality.
